Grizzly bears, Alaska, USA.
This is the best place to see grizzly bears fishing and is an amazing experience for all the family. Time it right and see bears feasting on salmon as they make their annual journey upriver to mate. Arrive by seaplane (which is very exciting) and be prepared for the bear briefing before you set out. Take those snacks out of your backpack or pockets or you may have an encounter that you weren’t planning on.

Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska, USA.
This is an incredible location for viewing whales and bears. Sometimes you need to just pinch yourself to check that it is all real. Cruising among glaciers and bays in a custom-built catamaran, you get to witness a mass of wildlife in a spectacular setting. We saw sea otters, whales, sea lions, bears, puffins and more bears. This made for an extraordinary day and, as well as being exciting, you learn a great deal about the flora and fauna as well.

Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa.
For a family safari, Madikwe Game Reserve is unbeatable. Exciting and malaria-free, it’s the kind of safari holiday that you won’t want to end. A few highlights included the early morning game drives in our own open-top Land Rover with our ranger Andrew, the afternoon drives with sundowners (Andrew supplied G&Ts and a picnic), the evening meals and stories around the campfire and of course the wonderful scenery and wildlife. Our three sons had the time of their lives and didn’t even notice that every day was highly educational.
