Beer House, Tallinn
Very few public drinking spots existed in Tallinn before the 1990s. Today a full-time party culture has burgeoned forth, reflecting not only the explosion of tourist interest in the country but also the increasing affluence of the Estonians themselves. For a guys’ night out head to Beer House, which is huge and hearty, lined with thick wooden tables and a vast copper micro-brewery. A large flat-screen TV showing cable and sports may look out of place with the ‘Olde Teutonic’ atmosphere but reflects the type of clientele of this mega bar/restaurant. It’s a fun place to eat, drink and be drunk without inhibitions, so you may suddenly feel yourself in cheerful, stein-wielding mood as you sit in Munich beer-fest rows, or drink from your own private 15-foot mug. The brewery makes its own, reasonably priced, micro-beers: choose from Pilsner (light, 5%) Märzen (medium, 5.5%) or Dunkles (dark, 6%). The choice of food is overwhelmingly large, too – with separate menus for grill dishes, pizza, bar snacks, or ‘gourmet’. What else do macho men need to have a blast?

Watergate, Berlin
Without doubt, Berlin boasts one of Europe’s most exciting and vibrant club scenes. Watergate is easily the most accessible of Berlin’s cool club clique. Boasting one of the better sound systems in Berlin, it’s a great place to catch both live bands and top name DJs. Nestled just below the Oberbaumbrücke, a lower level dance floor looks directly onto the river Spree, while in the summer months an outdoor deck caters for spaced-out stargazers. As daylight breaks, many revellers sneak upstairs to the safe anonymity of a darker dance floor. The clientele largely depends on the type of party thrown (from record release parties to electro tech-fests), but expect to find a crowd of style savvy tastemakers whatever the day. Your boys will be more than happy throwing some shapes here.

Buda Bar, Barcelona
If you’re after a long drinking session with the lads, then the nightlife in Barcelona won’t let you down. In fact, nor will the day life – long, boozy lunches are commonplace (that’s why the siesta is so popular…) before heading out for an evening of drinking, eating and clubbing. Scores, New York

Jolly Cool, Johannesburg
Often referred to as the Los Angeles of South Africa – without the silicone and superstars, of course - it’s hardly surprising that Jo’burg’s drinking dens are, on the whole, pretty damn stylish. The party’s pumping here, and there’s no denying that Jo’burgers know how to drink, dance and have a bloody good time. Finding a decent place to play pool is sometimes easier said than done, however, but you can call off the search party at Jolly Cool. With three tables to shoot some balls on, Jolly Cool is the perfect place to hang out with the guys. Order a beer at the bar while you wait your turn for a table, or sit outside and enjoy one of the bar’s legendary pizzas. Just be sure to smother it in Jolly Cool’s signature peri-peri sauce. Decent tunes add to Jolly Cool’s, er, cool factor.
