top 5 girls' night out

Check out these great tips provided by Hg2

Girls just wanna’ have fun, apparently – which is why Hg2 has tracked down the best places for ladies to let their hair down across the globe.

Café Atlantique, Milan

Want to combine a weekend of chic sophisticated glamour with some serious fun on the dance floor? Milan is where it’s at, and if you haven’t lived it up Milanese style before, then it’s high time you did. Decked out with blue mosaic tiles and stainless steel, Café Atlantique seems like a luxury, albeit dry, swimming pool, with a DJ stationed in a Jacuzzi-like tub on the edge of the dance floor. After a few Blue Lagoons, the Lost City of Atlantis seems like a more fitting reference, with the cascading fibre-optic chandelier that’s like a giant jellyfish and a sea of up to 1,500 people. There are plenty of opportunities to lose yourself, whether in the deep blue velvet Blue Room (with a second DJ), the white harem-like tent, a spacey silver zone or a summer terrace – in all, four bars and two restaurants variously cordoned off into privés for the likes of Naomi Campbell to get down and dirty in. Famous patrons aside, accessing these areas can be easy enough – book a table or buy a bottle. Music is commercial (disco, hip-hop, electronic, house), and pond life is weeded out at the door.

Santa Lucia, Rome

If the crush of nightclubs is not your scene, then do as the Romans do - unwind over a long, late and leisurely meal, followed by drinks al fresco at a café or wine bar. This will give you plenty of time to catch up on all the girly gossip! Gastronomic delights are never far away in Rome, but why not try Santa Lucia near the Piazza Navona? This restaurant is the very definition of contemporary Roman glamour, with a dark wood interior and a fine collection of paintings and drawings by contemporary artists. The food is a feast of modern Mediterranean cuisine, the atmosphere down-to-earth, and prices far from extortionate. Cosy up in the sexy interior, or sit under the trees in the courtyard festooned with fairy-lights. Later on you can sip cocktails into the wee hours at nearby Bar del Fico.

Pink Elephant, New York

Want to get wild, lose yourself, and give into the possibility that anyone might spot you across a crowded room and take you for a magical spin around the dance floor? Then New York is very much your city. If world-class house music’s your thing, and you’ve got money to spend, get thee to the Pink Elephant. This is a super-sexy destination where a floating glass-tile bar, sunken dance floor, curved lounge areas, and deep red hue get a well-heeled crowd in the mood for reckless abandon. The crowd, despite a few unavoidable dips and rips, tends to be rather chic and sexy, and the bottle service concept is very much alive and well. Grab the girls and get yourselves down there.

Palacio Gaviria, Madrid

Madrid is the ultimate party town, so don’t expect to get much sleep. Most clubs here don’t even open until around midnight. Once they get going the drinking and dancing continues until the sun comes up, and if you still want to keep going there are places where the beats keep thumping right through until the next day. One of the ultimate venues is Palacio Gaviria. Originally a 19th-century palace, this has now been converted into a nightclub, with all the original ceiling frescoes and other Baroque touches retained. How often do you get to party in a palace? Nothing less than what party princesses deserve, though. Once you’ve glided up the sweeping staircase entrance, you will find yourself in a labyrinth of rooms, each catering to a different crowd. Usually the Latino room is the most crammed but it depends on the night of the week. Chill out in the palace drawing room, or dance salsa in the grand dining room - you never know who you might meet…

Pontus, Stockholm

In other cities around the world, bars, restaurants and clubs are very different creatures. In Stockholm, it’s sometimes hard to tell them apart. Pontus! is one of the current trendy favourites for an evening out. It opened near Stureplan in the summer of 2007 and has since built a reputation for outstanding food and some of the best cocktails in the whole of Scandinavia. The Thai Mojito and the Jerry Thomas Breakfast Manhattan – a blend of whisky, orange curaçao and English marmalade – are particularly good. It’s a huge place spread over three levels. Just inside the entrance there’s a small Champagne and oyster bar, while the main bar is attached to a sushi bar and a dim sum station that sends up great clouds of steam. The downstairs restaurant, meanwhile, is decorated with custom-made wallpaper creating the illusion of dining in some outlandish library where the walls are smothered with outsized books. DJs play there at the weekend, and will have you up in your heels until the small hours.
